MOCA Local Genius Award Gala

6pm

As much a testament to the rich intellectual diversity of the region as it is a cause for celebration, MOCA’s Local Genius Award publicly recognizes the often unsung value of locally based creativity. The winners of the 1st Annual MOCA Local Genius Award are optical scientist and space explorer Peter Smith, author Byrd Baylor, poet Sherwin Bitsui, culinary mastermind Suzana Dávila, painter Robert Colescott, and musician Howe Gelb.

Selected as truly outstanding examples of world-class creative innovation generated by Tucson’s science, literature, visual arts, culinary, and music communities, the contributions of these local visionaries to the economic, cultural, and social well-being of Tucson and the world will be celebrated throughout the fall of 2008 with a series of Local Genius Award educational events downtown at MOCA on The Plaza, 149 N. Stone, and at the Local Genius Award Gala on March 28, 2009.

A creatively formal and utterly festive affair, the Gala includes dinner, live music, dancing with DJ Corbin Dooley, a silent auction, professional on-the-spot photographic portraits, and an awards presentation ceremony hosted by KXCI's Ernesto Portillo Jr. Don't miss it!
