About the Artist in Residence Program

MOCA’s Artist in Residence program provides opportunities for artists to develop new projects, to work with the unique space of the Great Hall to realize grandly-scaled site-specific installations, and to find the time and space to evolve their practice and challenge their boundaries.  Residencies range from a few weeks to six months and produce a variety of projects: exhibitions, videos, publications, performances and site-specific installations and interventions.  The AIR program not only forms the basis of our exhibitions program at MOCA, it also contributes to Headquarters, our internal think tank where artists and thinkers engage with MOCA to continually interrogate and refine our vision ensuring that we are always at the forefront of contemporary cultural practice.  Work produced in MOCA’s AIR program has been exhibited around the world, from Tokyo to Paris to São Paulo.  In all of those locations, the work is identified as being produced in Tucson, enriching Tucson’s reputation as a significant art hub and making the program a vital ambassador for enhancing Tucson’s reputation globally.
